A MRI Technologist performs all functions of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Under general supervision, performs MRI examinations and procedures according to established policies and protocols and patient's age-specific needs. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparing patients, operating MRI and related equipment, and administering contrast media as prescribed. Performs MRI procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical details. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative for accurate diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for maintaining safety in designated areas or procedures.
Performs all functions of MRI protocols, techniques and examinations. Ensures that exams are complete, high quality diagnostic images for Radiologist. Administers contrast as prescribed.
Obtains pertinent patient history, reviews physician orders for accuracy prior to performing exam.
Monitors and maintains essential patient care and safety during procedures, applies safety principles as identifed by established policy. Ensures safe patient handling and transport.
Maintains order and cleanliness of room and equipment following infection control guidelines.
Ensures equipment is functioning properly, troubleshoots malfunctions, and submits work orders as appropriate. Performs routine quality control as required by manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
Assists in other areas when needed, including reception and transporting.
Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management, ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies.
Assists Director with staff training and orientation.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology
Experience: Minimum of 6 months previous experience in MRI
Licenses & Certifications: ARRT (R) (MR) Certifications or ARMIT certification. Current BLS. Venipuncture Certification. CRT.
Required Skills & Knowledge: Ability to perform MRI diagnostic imaging that adheres to department and hospital protocols, policies, and procedures; Excellent written and oral communication skills (bilingual a plus); Commitment to excellence and high standards while working with people of all ages, at all acuity levels and from various backgrounds.
